Warkraj25 just happened and top of the standings was full of great lists. What I liked the most was that a lot of this lists had some innovations and tweaks which made them differ from classic archetype netlists, there were even few brand new list concepts. Despite all of that some of the fighters I expected to see were missing. Lack of certain fighters/types of lists is absolutely normal for a single event, but some of the fighters I consider powerful or even meta-bending is not showing up basically anywhere. To not be the guy who says he was right after the fact without any proof I decided to write my ideas down and hopefully not only be right before the fact, but also inspire and quicken the meta development.
Chaos
Since Darkoath received new rules and became separate faction I expect Warqueen Tanari to become one of the most popular allies in Chaos. In case of the meta going in the more “swarmy” direction I would even assume she could replace Vexmor as the most popular ally choice.

Where I see her shine the most is by r1 moving to the objective/deployment point (using Oath of Murder to later became favoured) and next round attacking + using Warqueen’s Fury.

To increase the chance to get favoured and the damage of her triple the Brutality blessing (+1/+0) is almost a must have (this blessing is also almost as underrated as the queen herself). If this sounds familiar its because I already wrote about it in “Hidden gem in Chaos”. Damage blessed Tanari is not only the perfect answer for a potential horde meta that may or may not come soon, she is a very powerful answer to profiles that are very popular today (and difficult to clear effectively): T3 12 wounds shooters (arkos, xbows, arbalesters) and T3 10 wound electrozombies with the reaction up. Against the first group there is 46,6% for oneshot with single attack action and 40,8% against the 2nd one (oneshotting the whole deployment group just after it appeared isn’t that unlikely). If it isn’t yet clear – this is the “potentially meta-bending” fighter I mentioned before.
Another fighter in chaos that deserves way more attention is Tzaangor with Pair of Savage Blades. This fighter is fast, durable, doesn’t need your ability dice, doesn’t care about You messin’ and has attack profile perfect for critfishing.

Lets combine both into single, simple list, that is certainly able to go undefeated even on very competitive tournaments:
- Warqueen Tanari (185pts, Hero) +Brutality
- Magister (155pts, Hero)
- Vexmor (150pts, Hero) +Ferocity
- 6x Tzaangor with Pair of Savage Blades (75pts)
Magister long range shooting complements Tanari a lot by helping her became favoured and finishing chaff that barely survived her triple. The simplicity of this warband makes your gameplan crystal clear, which is also an aspect of the list that is often underrated.
Death
Some time ago the meta changed and new community consensus around SBGL appeared. The “modern approach” replaced the powerhouse of Grave Guards with 1″ faster bladeborn chaff options.

I absolutely disagree with this change and I’m convinced that something that was simply an adaptation to Ferocious Gnarlwood II battlepack was massively misinterpreted as improvement or optimization. I still believe that the rightful place of the list like the one below is at the podium (on events not running FG2 pack):
- Wielder of the Blade (175pts, Hero) +Ferocity
- Wight King (155pts, Hero)
- Dire Wolf (85pts, Thrall)
- 8x Grave Guard with Great Wight Blade (70pts)
Grave Guard spam was at the top once and with “new” toys in form of battle trait and Wielder of the Blade can climb back there again. One last thing I want to add: if you want to do well with this faction – don’t leave your dogos at home.
Order
After initial excitement when Castelite Hosts were added to the game the hype gradually dropped as more and more players failed to crack listbuilding puzzle of this complicated faction. While it certainly isn’t the sleeper OP faction (at least not in current meta) that can jump to S tier it has quite extreme matchups and has one of the strongest answers to crossbow spam in form of their reaction (that on average hurts the Trailblazer for twice the damage it did).

Expecting slightly more horde meta or many Wildercorps Hunters I wouldn’t hesitate to bring a list like that and I would expect it to do very well:
- 2x Vulkyn Runefather with Drothvault Greataxe (150pts, Hero)
- Battle Priest (65pts, Hero)
- Friar Galvic (140pts) +Might
- 8x Freeguild Steelhelm (60pts)
I would also mention Whisperblade spam here, but thankfully Magnus winning last Norcry with it attracted some community attention, so it actually exists on some people radar.

Destruction
Destruction is here mostly due to the article structure I chose. Unlike other grand alliances destruction players use all the options they have. The only complain I have here is that “staying in Ogors” and focusing on Gorgers and 12 wounds chaff is not getting much consideration by the players who take their Ogor toys and move to other factions (mostly Kruleboyz).

Every time I hear people praize Slakeslash I wonder why Gorgers are so rarely used. Using Gorgers opens your ally slots for Boggleye and together with fantastic Luggit & Thwak and best chaff fighter in the game – Bushwakka you can field a list full of “best in class” fighters. As an example list I will copy a list I put on Discord few days ago:
- Gutlord (290pts, Hero) +Ferocity
- Gorger (195pts)
- Gorger (195pts)
- Boggleye (70pts, Ally)
- Boggleye (70pts, Ally)
- Luggit & Thwak (65pts)
- Gnoblar (45pts) / Might blessings on both Gorgers
- Bushwakka (40pts)
Outside of this I believe that there is way more strength in pure Boneslitterz than people think, mostly due to power of Headkrakka (supported by battletrait) and Big Stabbaz, but I don’t think they are a great 4-0 material.
Bonus Round – Nuke Talon
When Wombat brought two “brutal” Shriek Talons to previous Norcry I learned what my new big fear is. This beasts when starting their 8″ charge from platform (you need first round to setup this if you can’t deploy already on the platform) and using a triple (Swooping Attack – old rampage if you move 2″ down, which also activates +2S battle trait) will on average do 25dmg to T6 or 32dmg to T5 (exactly 57,47% chance for the second). Oneshotting full health Vexmor, Annihilator Prime or a Gutlord is not an average result you expect from 195 points fighter from a B/C tier bespoke team with no allies. When describing blessed Warqueen Tanari (215pts) I said her one attack has 46,6% to permanently fix a T3 12 wounds problem. “Nuke Talons” have the same chance, but when starting from elevated position keep this kill% even against T4 and T5 targets, which is a great news against Dispossessed.

Usually you don’t expect more than one Gutlord in one team and 57,47% is great, but still risky in high stakes situation (losing your big guys is a huge problem as the rest of the list sucks), so at the very low opportunity cost (10 points) you can increase that chance significantly by saving wild dice r1 and getting in position to strike r2 using two triples (that’s why you need 2 wild dice, but 2 triples certainly aren’t guaranteed) by using Inspiring Presence on “heroic” Shriek Talon and diving Gutlord first followed by the “regular” Nuke Talon triple. Reaction trap (preventing big threats from getting to your big birdman first by reacting with your chaff) is another “relatively safe” way to hunt titans with this list.
- Shadow Piercer (170pts, Hero)
- 2x Shrike Talon (170pts) +Brutality
- Shrike Talon (170pts) +Heroism
- 4x Cabalist (65pts)
Not everyone knows the “triple trick”, so I will share it here. You can get full benefit of both your battle trait and Swooping Attack even when starting your activation on the ground (EDIT: Confirm that with your TO first, I know that events in Poland and Norway allow it, but it might not work in UK). All you have to do is during your first action you move up to 6″ to some terrain and climb 2″ up. After finishing your move you can use the triple and move/jump down getting to your target (depending on the terrain you have up to 15″ threat range) where you can do 2 attack actions with full benefit of the battle trait (DPA 10,83 against T5)
There are a lot of players that like to show up at events with pure bespoke lists – the list above can at the same time be considered hipster, cute, black horse and the scariest in the room. Sadly it is so incredibly terrain dependent that you can lose a game in a color selection roll, so don’t expect much consistency here. Despite all that – having a “antititan plan” of basically oneshotting it is attractive enough that I still can’t understand why there are basically no Nuke Talons around.
As always – thanks for sticking to the end and I hope it was a fun and inspirational read. Warkraj25 reignited a fire in me so expect next publications to happen a bit more often. Currently I’m working on 2 listbuilding articles centered around Darkoath and midrange archetype in bespoke factions. If you enjoy my content please consider joining Patreon.
